The Internet is becoming an integral part of our daily lives, both at work and at home. It is being recognized that more and more Samoans, including students, as well as visiting tourists have a need for 24 hour access to the Internet. Different establishments such as hotels, motels, restaurants and Internet cafes also recognise this need, and are doing theirs to meet the growing demand for global connectivity.

A year ago Computer Services Limited (CSL) launched “Lavaspot” service. .Lavaspot is high-speed wireless Internet operating at broadband speed, based on WiFi technology. At the moment there are several Lavaspot hotspot zones, or access points, in and around Apia town.

Any user who is within a Lavaspot zone can access wireless internet provided they have a Lavaspot prepaid card available from the Lavaspot host sites. Whether it be a desktop at an Internet café or at a hotel, or your own personal laptop, all you need to do is turn on your wireless hardware, connect to Lavaspot and enter your username and password.

The Lavaspot cards are charged by time and not MB’s downloaded/uploaded. There are 1, 2 and 5 hour cards available from the different outlets around Apia.

CEO of CSL, Laeimau Oketevi Tanuvasa, states that: “Our ultimate goal is that every household and establishment in the CBD will have access to a Lavaspot connection. With better infrastructure we aim to grow nationally.”

Microsoft Certified Trainers Coming to Apia!

In an effort to meet the increasing demand for various IT training needs in Samoa, CSL has partnered up with ACE Training Limited, one of the biggest Microsoft training specialists in the market today.
